Mountain Village is the center for all ski and snow boarding activity at Big Sky. In the Mountain Mall you can find a good cup of coffee, lunch, and snacks. In addition to cafes and restaurants, you can purchase sporting goods, jewelry, furs, clothing, and gifts. In the evenings you can enjoy entertainment ranging from live rock ‘n roll and country bands to something more folksy like the Crazy Austrians. For Warren Miller ski buffs, you can catch his latest film at the Huntley Lodge. For those of you who prefer a closer look at nature, there are plenty of cross country ski trails and back country skiing. A great activity for the family is the sleigh ride dinner program offered at the Lone Mountain Ranch. Snowmobiling and dog sled rides also available. For those who want to relax, there are several spa facilities available on the Mountain and in the Meadow.
For the more adventurous, you can catch the free shuttle down the mountain to the Meadows. During peak season, the shuttle runs about every 20 minutes. The bus stop is conveniently located across the street from our lodge, in front of the Black Bear Bar and Grill. In the Meadow, you can find just about anything. There are several boutiques, a selection of markets, a post office, hardware store, pharmacy, beauty shops, gas station, art galleries, restaurants and cafes.
The Meadow is a popular hang out apres skiing for the younger set. Coming soon is a skating rink. For those with a gourmet palate, some of the best kept local secrets are the Montana Dinner Yurt, the Timbers, and the Carabiner Lounge.
Ski season ends in April, one month later the Summer season begins. So what does a famous ski resort do in the Summer? Quite a bit! Blue ribbon trout fishing, guided or on your own, is available in the Gallatin, Madison and Yellowstone Rivers. White water rafting, kayaking, and horseback riding is a blast for the whole family. There are plenty of trails for hiking and mountain biking. Base Camp has zip lining and ropes classes. For the rugged type, there are many hunting opportunities. For the less rugged, the lodge can be your luxurious base camp. The big game hunting season runs from September 15 through November 28. For more information you can call 406-994-4042.

SKIING
Big Sky has the best skiing anywhere for all levels. Period. Here‘s why. For the expert, the tram provides access to the top of Lone Peak. Liberty Bowl on the back side of Lone Peak has 5 miles of continuous expert wide open skiing. The front of Lone Peak provides extreme and chute skiing. The Challenger Chair for the advanced skier gives you the steep and deep. Andesite Mountain, has the best intermediate terrain in North America. Elk Park Ridge on the back side of Andesite is a steep and groomed wide fast run. Next to it is a long and challenging ungroomed run for those that love the mogul experience. Beginners have their own lift and their own series of trails specially groomed to provide wide even surfaces. Anyone who skies Big Sky will tell you, hands down, that Mr K is the best family ski experience available any where in the world. Mr K has the longest beginners run in America, 3 miles, and it’s really fun for everyone!
The base of the lowest lifts and the elevation of Lone Peak provide about 3,850 feet of vertical with over 3,600 acres of developed ski terrain and terrain parks for snow boarders. There is a skiing circuit, if you purchase a combined lift ticket, that includes the Moonlight Basin ski area, which is just above the our lodge about 3/4 mile. If you want to use the Olympic Cross Country Trails you’ll need to go to Lone Mountain Ranch about four miles down the road from Mountain Village.
There is a great day care center with skiing support for the toddlers and youngsters. The ski school has a group ski program for all ages and levels.
