The location is in the hills southwest of Pisa, and can be reached in only 35 minutes from the airport. The nearest village is Palaia, an exquisite gem with an old archway at each end of its main street. Within easy access are the some of Italy's world-famous heritage sites - Pisa, Florence, Lucca, Volterra, San Gimignano and Siena, and the Mediterranean is 45 minutes away. The countryside around the Borgo is dotted with ancient hilltop villages, often with fine restaurants, and beautiful and varied scenery. The country roads are well-surfaced and uncrowded. The nearest town to the Borgo, Pontedera (20 minutes) has modern stores, shopping malls, movies and a train station (Pisa 15 minutes, Florence 30 minutes). The highway between Florence and Pisa is 15 minutes away, and gives access to the famous Autostrada del Sol with Rome in one direction, Bologna and Milan in the other, both accessible in a morning. In spite of its proximity to such attractions the Borgo has a special serenity.

The Enoteca, open from breakfast till late has an all-day menu. Anything from a glass of wine or an espresso to a full meal can be enjoyed, both inside in a vaulted wine cellar, or outside in the courtyard with a woderful evening view of the sun going down over the hills. The other restaurant offers gourmet Tuscan cuisine at a range of prices. In both you can drink wine from vineyards you can see from Borgo windows. There are two big swimming pools, one of which is heated for year use.
