Description of surrounding area and attractions
The Big Island offers many unforgettable experiences. In Hawaii Volcano National Park, you can walk through a giant lava tube, hike through unforgettable rainforests, steaming craters, or see what Pu'u O'o is creating today; one of the only place's in the world you will experience new land being created. Check out Punalu’u beach, where sea turtles rest and lay their eggs in the beautiful black sand, a 30 minute drive. Visit old historic town Hilo, only 30 minutes away. Walk through the beautiful Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens, or to hike to the many waterfalls. If your travels take you to the South East part of the Big Island to walk on newly made land near Kaimu; make sure to check out the banana splits at Verna's Cafe; where the road ends in Kaimu on hwy 137. A short jog down hwy 137, snorkel and soak in the naturally heated Kapoho tide pools, breathe the most pristine air in the world, check out Champagne Pond, another 10 miles east of Kalapana, a beautiful drive.
