Surrounded on both sides by nothing but wildlife, the community of Jamaica Beach stretches from the Gulf of Mexico all the way to the bay side of Galveston Island. This relative geographical isolation has lent itself to strong feelings of independence within its citizenry. Canal houses are very popular as they allow quick access to the beach (by walking or car) but they have a canal to fish, swim, boat, or jet ski from. A canal house is very relaxing and typically quieter than a beach house.
