Gaucin is an isolated village on top of a mountain with a castle 2000 years old. It is 640m in altitude & cools down in the evening during the summer. The property borders the Roman road, Camino de Gibraltar, an excellent place to start country walks. Migratory bird transit area. Spectacular wildflowers, esp. in Spring, but year-round. Gaucin is an ideal base to explore the backlands of Andalucia.
Ronda: 25 mins; Gibraltar: 1 hour ; Algeciras: 1 hour; Marbella. 50 mins.; Sevilla, Granada, Cordoba, Cadiz: all within 2 or 3 hours.
Tangier: approx. 3 hours travel time.
This part of Spain is famous for hill walking & rambling. The mountains offer challenging walks & mountain climbs. The valleys & river beds offer less strenuous walking, as do the many cork & pine forests which cover the area. Gaucin borders 2 national Parks, the Sierra de Grazalema & Los Alcornocales, & is overlooked by the mountain range of the Serrania de Ronda Mountains. The Beaches of the Costa del Sol - 30 mins.
