Specific information about property
Quaint stone farmhouse standing half way along the wild and beautiful Sheep’s Head Peninsula and overlooking the waters of Dunmanus Bay. This simple cottage has been lovingly restored whilst retaining traditional features such as low ceilings, steep staircase and a huge inglenook fireplace. Cosy, comfortable and welcoming, it is an ideal base for walking, cycling and touring in an area renowned for its spectacular scenery, excellent walking routes, sea, shore and lake angling, and rich archaeological heritage.
On the ground floor there is a parlor with large inglenook fireplace. On the other side of the entrance porch there is a kitchen with dining area. There is also a shower room on this level. There are two staircases, each leading to two bedrooms at either end of the cottage. One staircase is narrow and steep. There is one bathroom at the top of each
stairway. Although simple and rustic, this is a charming, comfortable base for guests who are interested in authenticity.
The area is unspoiled and with 55 miles of marked paths to explore you will enjoy this wild, beautiful coastline where you can walk for long stretches with only the sea birds and an occasional sheep for company.
The West Cork garden trail, fishing, water sports, pony trekking, golf, pubs and fine restaurants are all available in beautiful West Cork.
You can visit the many prehistoric tombs and monuments and there is a wonderful 'Ring' drive starting outside Bantry, along the Goat's Path to Kilcrohane, then back through Ahakista (stop off at the Air India Memorial), and on to Durrus. Take a trip to Carbery Island to visit the seal colony or arrange a day's sea fishing. The town of Bantry can be reached in 30 minutes; stop at Bantry House and learn about the 1798 Rebellion or drive on to Glengarriff and take a boat to Ilnacullin Gardens, noted for their sub tropical plants.
