Additional information about surrounding area and attractions:
Even if it’s just chance that has brought you here, like many of us you'll certainly find that this place is far more than just a simple tropical resort.
For time has stopped here. The clock of the old town of Lamu still shows the 17th century. No cars... You will adjust to the rythm of the wake of the dhows and to the pace of the donkeys. Enjoy the charm of getting lost in the maze of alleyways in the village, where smiles will guide you where you wish to go.
Going to Lamu Old Town from Forodhani is an enjoyable walk along the beach. During your stay, try to go to the market in the town centre at least once, and of course visit Swahili House, the Fort, the National Museum, the Donkey Sanctuary and wander in these old streets.
Lamu is classified by Unesco for its great cultural, historical and architectural interest. You will feel the 13 centuries of history, the complex mix of Arabic/African/Indy culture, which figures the rich Swahili Culture and above all its so welcoming atmosphere. Don't miss it!
Shella Village is perfectly safe to walk around day & night, great moments walking around, sharing with inhabitants, and nice shopping too.
From the house, heading to the right, you’re on your way to enjoying the 12 km pristine Shella Beach… You can walk, jog, or swim. Shella is a good spot for kite or windsurfing too. You can also go snorkelling or diving on coral reefs Manda Toto or Kinika, the marine life is very rich there.
Lamu is well known for its great sailors. Directly on the beach at Forodhani feet, you can get in a dhow for a dreaming Sunset Cruise around Manda (it’s the one I prefer!) or Day Cruise around the whole Archipelago.
At Xmast-NYear, during Maulidi Festival (March), Lamu Cultural Festival (Nov), or in August, the most famous Dhow Races take place, it’s as beautiful as impressive!
Breathtaking sea-views, nature at its best, the rich Swahili history and culture, soo good sailors and welcoming inhabitants, you won't forget your holidays.
Additional information about amenities:
We can accommodate up to 12 people with all the necessary comforts (10 adults or 3 families).
The 4 double bedrooms have their own handcrafted double/twin bed, huge mosquito nets, a separate bathroom, a shaded terrace, and all have a view over the sea. A 5th bedroom, overlooking the Indian Ocean too, has 3 single beds, a terrace and, of course, a bathroom as well.
At ground floor, one big kitchen, a sophisticated dining terrace, a large lounge alongside the pool, different areas to take it easy in, and the garden, all offer varied possibilities for dining and relaxing. You walk from room to room through arched galleries, watching the plasterwork, niches and friezes which ornate the walls.
From the terraces of the 1st and 2nd floors, you overlook the Channel. On the top top terrace, the view is staggering, at your back the makuti rooftops of the village and in front the whole archipelago!
You have a pool too, partly shaded by an acacia tree, which stretches between the garden and the ocean, and so choice to swim in: fresh water here or sea below… Down just a few steps, which lead to the beach.
With ample room and lots of different areas to take it easy, 4 members of staff to pamper you (2 house-keepers and waiters – 1 watchman -1 great cook), it’s really the ideal place to stay with family or friends, to relax, be lulled by the lapping waves and cooled by the gentle sea breeze which is so refreshing at these latitudes. Enjoy !
