Georgia – mountains, lakes and Southern charm
Lakes, rivers and majestic mountains are a lure attracting vacationers to Georgia every year. Atlanta is a sophisticated metropolis filled with all the activity, excitement and culture one would expect from a growing urban center. However, to get a real feeling for today’s south, vacationers might want to visit other destinations within the state. Seventeen miles from the ocean, on the border with South Carolina, is the charming city of Savannah. Its appealing historic district, with its scenic Spanish-moss-swathed squares, formed the core of the original city. With its eighteenth and nineteenth century architecture and cobbled waterfront on the Savannah River, the city captures the culture and grace of the Old South along with contemporary shopping, dining and night life. The museums, gravesite tours and Savannah Riverboat Cruises are all popular with visitors. For nature-lovers Georgia offers a many islands and forest retreats. Surrounded by the beautiful north Georgia mountains, the Lake Blue Ridge area offers a host of recreational amenities including picnicking, hiking, boating, skiing and fishing. The town of Blue Ridge was once an elite health resort because of its pure mineral waters. Today, Blue Ridge's Main Street is lined with historic buildings, shops, galleries and dining. At the center of town is the historic depot, now home to the famous Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. A variety of vacation rental accommodations are available around the state providing a home away from home for traveling friends and families.
