Right on Shela beach, overlooking the jetty of the village, and overseeing the channel of the Indian Ocean that separates Lamu Island from Manda Island.
Newly built in authentic swahili style and exquisitely finished, Forodhani House sleeps comfortably 10 to 12 people, in 5 ensuite bedrooms (3 double and 2 triple), all with breathtaking but peaceful views of the to and fro of boats entering and leaving the archipelago.
With ample room and lots of different areas to take it easy in (near the pool, in main lounge, in garden, dining room, or on barazza beds and seats, shaded or not, at ground, 1st or 2nd floors, in little lounge bar, or on top top terrace), it is really the ideal place to stay with family or friends (10 adults or 3 families), to relax, be lulled by the lapping waves and cooled by the gentle sea breeze which is so refreshing at these latitudes.
Many activities in Forodhani House or at the corner, including:
- Swimming, in Forodhani’s corridor pool or in the sea at your feet
- Water Sports such as Waterskiing, wakeboarding and donating, windsurfing and snorkeling, Kiting, Kayaking, Sailing
- Sailing on Mozambic or Lamu Dhows, for the fun or to race, Sunset cruise, the day around Lamu Island or several days on boat safaris
- Fishing, traditional way or dep-sea fishing
- Walking (or running !) on the 12km pristine beach of Shela
- Bird walks in the dunes and around the Mangrove
- Turtle nests and births on Manda Beach and now on Shela again also.
- Discover Shela Village and Lamu Old Town, their rich past, unique and authentic Swahili Culture, so welcoming atmosphere
There are 3 daily scheduled flights between Nairobi and Lamu. You will be collected at the Airport by boat for your 10 minutes ride to Forodhani House
Forodhani House is rented on a self catering basis, with 4 staff (among them a very good cook) to pamper you.
